Knock, Knock

Knock, Knock

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Knock, Knock
and the new generation
took a bow,
and Who is leading this congregation
of agate stones,
shiny with little substance
and flat, smooth initiative
left at life's classroom's door
"when will they ever learn"
is sung outside the school of good intentions
but the melody is harsh
and out of sync with apathetic voices
lazing on a beach somewhere drinking
Budweiser's and hop scotching to
a text message that says little
and means less
and the new generation's
taking over as the song implies
but I see nothing but barren landscapes
of future,
technology insulating us from the real world
of touch and feel and zeal
to emerge
to engage
to "rage against the good night"
and find our day
Aquarius is still waiting on us.

Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Me!
Me who?
The me you can't see because your face is buried in your phone!

Are you speaking of a future when people are so uncomfortable with personal interaction because communication only happens at a digital distance? Dulled by the ease of technology.

I miss the passion of the sixties.
thank you, William,

I thought of the musical Hair. This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius.

All I can say is I'm pleased I was born when I was. I have lived and loved in the real world. I am not a child of the technology era, praise the Lord.

The younger generation don't know anything else, but I do. I try telling them. Sometimes they listen :)

I think they have missed out.

Hi Jacob, by now we should be on the road to Utopia. That is a laugh, 2021 and nothing has changed, if anything, things are as bad, if not worse, than they have ever been. I look at how the world stands and sorrow grips my heart. What have we done? A strong, deep poem, my friend. A spotlight upon the situation as it is. The age of Aquarius is yet to come, will it? An outstanding write, Jacob. Have a wonderful evening....Mike.

You are welcome, Jacob. Have a wonderful Friday....Mike.
I am stunned... really stunned that this "Aquarius age" brought nothing! I thought 2021 was going to be at least better than 2020 but it wasn't not even personally... I don't want to keep going and get more emotional.

"but I see nothing but barren landscapes
of future,
technology insulating us from the real world
of touch and feel and zeal
to emerge"

Who wouldn't be touched by these words?
