footnotes of tapping feet

footnotes of tapping feet

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

footnotes of tapping feet

the clarinet played whimsical blues

in the smoke-filled club

as a poet ceded his wares

in musical dimension

and florid accompaniment

bookmarks tossed in ashtrays

words floated

in perfect rings

until the fan dispersed

a hunger for meaning

as night shift aroma

of metaphor

swayed in the air

like sashaying hips.

Oh how I wish clubs were more like this and not filled with rap music...the scene of the smoke in the air, while old blues played in the background and poets thrived. This imagery was really enticing and striking. Short, sweet, and perfect. You are amazing as always...

elaborately intricate
swirling about this
Un-heald place.
Lucidly dreaming
like a muse veiled in
smoke.
Wonderful!

The search for meaning. Probably life's greatest quest. Religion, causes, ideologies... They come and go and still Man searches. Power in a few words, my friend. Well written.

Ah, you took me back to Ronnie Scott's jazz club in Soho. A place I used to frequent in my twenties. Plenty of clarinet and saxophones there. Loved the ambience, but the drinks cost an arm and a leg :) And the smoke got in my eyes. Thank you my friend for the nostalgia and happy new year:)

I was flooded with the image of Paul Thorn and his daughter Kit. They did a duet called, Joanie the Jehovah Witness Stripper where she plays a clarinet solo. I absolutely love Paul. This was so well crafted, as all your works are. I enjoyed the read. F.
