a means away from meaning

a means away from meaning

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a means away from meaning

integrity
remains elusive
shoddy poet
writes back door
lines that lurk
with unsure consonants

respect
is a poet's Holy Grail
words
his journey

in the end
his assonance breeds self-contempt
he smiles unevenly as he is

selling out
for a name.

Your insight to what we feel is all about that in the second stanza. But hopefully we can all bolster each other's confidence. I'm still mulling over the ending. Selling out for a name. Hmmmm.

Second stanza…I wanted it as mine, I felt myself in this one, wanting that respect that I always deny it mattering to me but it does, to a degree. Getting too old to care much anymore which may help my writing….LOL I couldn’t even type that with a straight face :D as always great writing my friend!

well not by my calculations my friend!
The ole friend poetry becomes us and each time we sacrifice a part of self with it, let the tide swamp us and merge with it...becoming poetry is a sort of defiance in my opinion, a defiance against fate to live life and be...awesome piece dear Jacob :)

Thank you for your kind words, Kesch,

Touching words, straight from a great poet's heart. What makes a poet tick? I'd say love for his art and that's what I feel deeply here.

the art has to mean everything to the poet. Thank you AJ
There is nothing quite like writing a line you know is good, with no reservations. Still, the temptation to submit less than our best because that last olive won't quite come out of the jar can be very strong.

Yes, temptation pretty great just to churn out numbers rather than quality...

writing poetry or prose, stories
is a hard addiction to shake..
it's like a high a fixed drug everytime
we create a piece, and do we really
want to get rid of this addiction
I think not ..its like the air we breathe
we need it...

such a blessed affliction.

Recognition, appreciation, love and respect....things a poet aspires for and craves. It's something beyond material and that burnishes a poet's divine soul.
