A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Adult

I'm growing up now

it's a feint procedure

like ducking right hooks

from an inconsiderate champion

who left me sitting in my corner

imagining a next round

but all I got

was

served a few drinks

and a summons

that the bar was closing

and I was way past my prime.

thank you, Lathen,

I'm beginning to think you spend a lot of time in bars. Spilling wine and now you're getting into bar brawls. Hopefully your words got the best of his words. I noticed your maturity grew as the reviews came in. 12, then 14. Don't grow up to fast. You might meet your death

that is funny, Bill. I never go to bars anymore and hardly used to...not much of a drinker ever.

Just write of it then. Maybe the write creates the experience. Sounds safer anyways.
You know when I was six, I used to count on my fingers how long it would be till I was twelve. Twelve was so grown up, so old. These days I hanker after childhood. Oh to be a kid with no responsibilities. The longer you put off being an adult, the better in my opinion. My inner child comes out to play regularly. That's where I wandered after reading your lines J.

I felt like this soon after my 18th birthday. Now that I'm 26, I'm still not at peace with growing older. Haha. I'm haunted by the idea that the best years of my life are already behind me. Aging gracefully is something I have yet to learn. Hugs to you, sir.

Often think an adult is just a child getting older and sometimes we are just a shell when we lose the child in us..

Lol you’re a wise 7 year old.
Too many nights in a barstool ages men prematurely. Give me a summer night by a campfire any day. Lonely words, my friend. Lonely words...

You're welcome, my friend.
I have the image in my head, I have a half-empty drink and the car keys on the bar in front of me, then Gary, the bartender, says, "..........?

Thanks, JE....I probably would not have made it home.

Hey wait! It's not yet time!
If we had our way, the rounds would never end and there'd be always some growing up left to do.
Sadly, the Great Adult above doesn't leave it to us kids to decide our bedtime.

Its such a pleasure, my friend. :)
There is something noble about prize fighting. "Sometimes the fear of it comes to warm the room", Mike Tyson said. And yet even in defeat, there is a certain formality about getting knocked out by someone (or something) much stronger. Perhaps even something elaborately ceremonious about living to fight another round. Father time is both undisputed and undefeated , Great analogy to life by my friend. Just fabulous.....dana

I would have tripped the bar owner….for telling you your past your prime… what does know about you? I loved the part about the the right hooks and sitting in your corner… aging is all in the mind… and when that happens it’s nobody’s business… have a few more drinks in me….
Best
