Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Amazing Grace

eccentric ladybug

clings to the vine of insanity

better to avoid understanding

the pain of self

it's a burst of wind

in the sail of her brain

eyes peripherally seeing the demon’s approach

the pain of self

crawling through makeshift leaves of stalking men

crushed by large, implying feet

numb to the cracking sounds of her heart breaking

the pain of self

slapped against window by haloed hand

friends cheer,

squash her esteem, leave her beleaguered

the pain of self

stove pipe

feelers alert

ready position

the pain of self

the smack

the crack

the backbone crushed

a smile of self

unstable mate

born to initiate

a violent end

now the shoe is on the other foot.

The ego is the source of fear, and from fear all pain flows. Some people go to enormous lengths to avoid confronting or trying to understand their egos. They find all kinds of escapes, booze, drugs and relationships to name a few. The character in this poem chose the last named, which can indeed lead to danger. In this case it led to death.

Ego is not a bad thing, as long as we don't have too big of a supply of it.
thank you, John,<.. read more
Exoskeletons are not very helpful when the pain is beneath it, this is a very painful piece, I of course, love it, the descriptions are so visual!
