intoxication

intoxication

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

intoxication

I fly rampant

discolored,

radical

no drinks

just life

carry my bar stool in my pocket

on occasion

the butterflies get dizzy

watching me make a fool of myself

and then land face down

on the leaf

that is my autumnal pride.

Oh, to be so high on life! The poet is self propelled and so completely into life and his intoxication is enviable. This poem is so utterly adorable. The third verse is awesome. You're so good with words, my friend.

thank you for your kind review, DIVYA,

It may be the fact that our pride is now "autumnal" which leads us to such rampant discoloration for better or worse. Spare and admirably tight stuff.

Madam Butterfly 🦋…
Getting high on life
without drinking ..
the best kind of intoxication
one can appreciate and enjoy
without a hangover...

I appreciate you.

I like the carry my bar stool in my pocket line very much. That tells me you have a zest for life without having to get it out of a bottle. Sadly so many turn to drink these days. I think lockdown has made it worse, but for me it worked in reverse. There I go rhyming again J. :) I've seen many a fluttering butterfly but none dizzy as a result of too much of the hard stuff. I so enjoyed this poem.

Thank you for your kind review and I liked that rhyme of yours.

Well, I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy because if I'm going to be a vegetable I might as well take my time. ;) I think I carry my soul in a notebook sometimes but it's better than carrying my heart in my wallet. "Autumnal pride"...I'll drink to that. F.

The celebration of life needs no drink when living the life to the fullest.

you a fool? well you fit right in with the rest of us. and I think it's good to make a fool of yourself once in a while, keeps you humble and teaches you to laugh at yourself. and the writing is exceptional

I laugh at myself quite a bit, thank you.
I think the writing is important, not the poet.

You are so right, of course and I will remember that in the future :)
What kind of dervish are you to make butterflies? 😆
Lots of fun my friend.

Drunk on life......it's still a good state of mind to have; much preferable to being stuck in a sobering stupor. We all fall flat on our faces at times and the pride gets hurt. We just have to regain our feet and keep on drinking in all that life has to offer. " butterflies get dizzy..." That line made me think of Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.....about there being no mistakes in the tango....if you get tangled up, you just tango on. 💛
