A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

in generous calling

her whispers endure me

non-compliant as I am to love

in my taciturn state

I only hear my heart retreating

she turns a deaf eye

and accepts the poet

for what he is

a wordsmith who doesn't believe

a word of what he writes.

Ah, yes, the interior monologue of the introvert, how well I know thee. Wonderfully imaginative and a nice closing line. I feel this one, J.

thank you for your kind review, Winston,
j.
Poets write of many things
with emotional impact especially
when we write self introspective
writes or personal experiences
that we're more attached to
with deep expression

Nice work

I don't know how much I still have in me, Fran.

"between what is real and fantasy, lies shadow..." I believe that is a paraphrase from a TS Eliot poem.... I think poetry is often written within the 'shadow', fantasies that touch us to look beyond our own individual lives, even when about us personally.... for a period of time now, it seems to me that poets and poetry is more about looking inward, self and self-worth.... understandable in a me first society.... but where are the Beat poets of today?? the Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan poets??? there are a few, but do they get the "play time" so to speak.... yes, we need "love poems and fantasy" but are they about how love either hurt or benefits the individual or are they how a love, that can rock the universe with the way it influences everyone to strive for and change the existing relationships for the better???? where are the poets and poems that inspire a future people, that emerge from the shadow with metaphor blaring....

I enjoy reading the poems you write Jacob, especially those that allows the mind to wander in many directions.... for this I would throw lots of "acclaim" your way....

Me too Jacob, me too…
Poets live their days and dream their nights far from the maddening World… where Love is found in Whispers … waking to the sound of Blue Birds chirping in a Nest of feathered Down… Jacob your Poetry is written on Ivory Keys. gently, Pat

I wish I had as much faith in its worth....but thank you for your kind words, Pat,
j.
Words are only words, unless there is emotion in involved in this relationship ….but here it seems as though she accept you for your poetic words, even though your “ heart is retreating”…..
Clever write J.

You're very welcome J.
Best, B
You have told me many times J you are a conduit for your muse. She gives you the words, you get to the keyboard. If that is the case maybe you don't feel emotionally attached to everything you write but I know for a fact you can certainly put emotion into your writing my dear friend.

you are right, Chris...you are right.
thank you,

Whoa! In all fairness, I think poets write about what comes to them. It doesn't have to be a personal experience. If observe it, feel it, read it, hear it....we may write about it. I suppose one could write what one doesn't believe in but, why would one? Interesting read Mr. J.
