Animal instinct

Animal instinct

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

presumptive plant life

a venus flytrap awaits

prey's delicacy

in a scattered life

love surmises a pattern

we become the fools

radiant foreplay

the mantis displays his wares

then ends up consumed

This reminds me of fattening up the lambs and cows turkeys chickens all beautiful creatures only to kill and eat them yes I eat meat but not much these days we make animals fat for the taking
I’m probably way off track but that’s what I thought of after reading maybe it was the mantis being gobbled up

The mating habits of the animal kingdom are particularly fascinating. I always think it is so unfair that the males of certain species look so gloriously splendid with feathers and colour while the female is plain and boring. As to the mantis, how tragic that after the performance the female has no use for him. Would have been kinder to ignore him, but to eat him up to satisfy a different type of hunger, well that shows what length the female will go to, to prove she is boss :) I guess many a trap has been made to snare a bloke in our own species. A song has come to mind, fools step in where angels fear to tread. Why on earth did that pop up out of the blue :) I very much enjoyed your haiku and senryu dear J. If there is a lesson to be had here, when it comes to the mating game, I'm not sure they will be heeded.

There you go, doing yourself down :) Your fans are here to raise you up :)
An interesting look at the animal kingdom. I was always fascinated by the fact that soon after mating the mantis devours its mate. Is there a lesson to be learned here?

Take care - Dave

I think so but am not sure exactly what that lesson is...or maybe I am too dumb to figure it out.read more
