a night on the town

a night on the town

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a night on the town

the bouncers at club Heaven
tossed me out on my soul
before I had a chance
to glance

at the North Star of the show
I tried to look over my catechism
to see

what he must be
according to Hoyle
there is a play
that is legal

but that church door
swung shut
when my faith needed to be let in
most

I searched another bar
but faith became
more devil's hands
throwing me out into the street

my bible thrown after me
so I sat on a curb
writing
my way back towards
some kind of belief

while nursing my sores
from a rejection
I never imagined
as a child
who reached the age of reason

sternly forbidden to understand
why.

I understand how people can be turned off religion due to many reasons that are legitimate.
I'm a thinker and sifter when it comes to any faith or denomination. I reject the ideas or accept them based on my proper understanding of God and other things. Lots of human fingerprints and footprints were added especially political, pagan and social.
Excellent take on this subject sir Jacob.

You are welcome sir Jacob.
The Church & God are, of course, two different things.
God, if He exists, and if He personifies Love-thy-Neighbor--and those are 2 Big IF's--remains ever Mysterious ......"Why?" is an apt ending to your thought-provoking write!

Keepers of faiths are very poor examples and often rotten to their cores. Perhaps having the doors of these establishments closed in one’s face is a blessing disguise.

A definite blessing...thank you for your words, Mary.

The church door shut for me when I was a teenager. I didn’t feel the warmth and the ones who could have given it, didn’t. There were some I noticed, who were not full of the milk of human kindness and certainly didn’t follow the teachings of Jesus. Organized religion, just doesn’t work for me j.

No human kindness, they just profess faith and think they are invincible...and above everyone else.<.. read more
Ah, those kids we used to be, before real life (™️ - patent pending) got a bit too up close and personal.
Sadly it is a sign of the times that heaven even needs bouncers these days!

and many of them.
Thank you, Lorry.

I guess the original church fathers who formulated theology and rituals could not forsee what literacy would do to their creations.

WE got some learning and there went religion...the rise and fall.

Jacob,
Many of the atheists I've known want to talk about the failures of the church and then apply those shortcomings to God. I'm a studied Christian, steeped in the tradition, and as far as I can see, from 2000 years down the line, the church has preached a perverted gospel from the very beginning...

How sad the perversion is.
Thank you for sharing these thoughts, Vol.
