My Muse

by Erin L George

This is not the last poem I'll write

about my muse. A muse never dies,

he lives to keep you up at night.

A muse is for better or for worse

the tears I leave upon the sheets -

nature's clever curse.

I'll wake to him in nightmare's screech,

grasping for my pen.

In darkness, it's for him I reach.

Lonely is the heart without a muse -

tapping on the page,

the keys,

the soul

with her I'm whole again.

Come to me in daydreams please,

I shall not let you fall. Is that you,

my precious muse, hanging in the breeze?

***

Come to me.

Very nice. I think this was a great poem, great thoughts on inspiration and how it works here. I loved the word choice here, my favorite line being "Lonely is the heart without a muse". That line just hit hard and was very effective.
