Rather Cranky

Rather Cranky

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

A poem to some of my health problems

"
I've had a headache for over four weeks,
I wonder if it has reached its peak?
It's making me feel rather cranky
and I've shed a few tears in my hanky.

The doctor ordered quite a few tests
and I've done my best to get some rest.
Are the pains in my back, neck and head trying to vie,
as to which one can make me give up and die?

Those suckers don't know that I won't give up-
life is overflowing in my cup.
They obviously don't know what I've been through for years-
they are amateurs and I have no fears!

Don't those b*****s know it isn't my time?
I'll just take the pain and put it in rhyme!
What doesn't kill me, makes me stronger
and I'm saying, I'll be around longer!

Pain is purifying and hell can wait....

I don't like that particular rhyme scheme though. I do love the concept however.

I love this "screw you", written in such a friendly, rhyming couplet. The tension is powerful.

It takes a strong person to face an "adversary, pain, or whatever illness that goes on forever" head-on. I love your spirit, and that you find solace in rhyme...

Thank you, Diane!
It's depressing, but so hopeful!..specially at the end. It reminds me of that song of One Republic:"what kills me makes me feel alive, what drowns me makes me wanna fly". And I feel sorry for you if you need to take pills, I was taking some, so I probably know how you feel. I love this poem! It makes me feel better. Thanks for sharing! :D

Preach it sister, I do hate these health problems. I hope you get better soon or I will fly there and magically make you better! :) I prefer to sleep through the pain..... It didn't help me though, ha.

Get well soon!

Thanks, Noodle!
That's the spirit. Whenever I get pain I fight it by getting mad at it and challenging it - "Is that the worst you can do to me? That won't stop me!" I refuse to limp, stoop or groan.

Great poem! Very inspiring.
