This Time Around

This Time Around

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

Trying to get love right

"
Dear love of my life,
This time around
we thought certainly we'd be bound,
but, again our stars did not align,
though we both kept alert for any negative sign
of forces wanting to tear us apart.
But, when fate is determined to win,
it gleefully counts up all our sins,
writes them down and laughs,
as it watches you contemplate your coming loss,
as just like many times in the past,
we come together, but do not last.
How many chances are we given,
what do we need to do to appease the Gods,
because I would do anything to be with you-
not for just a year or two;
What I want is all my time spent loving you,
I long to be loving you for all eternity

Your poem feels as if written by a person who looks around & all he/she sees are people in relationships that seemingly last forever (that would be me). Yet, this narrator has known only fits & starts, relegated to longing for someone else's rendition of how love should go. It's hard to embrace love when it isn't meant to last forever. Why can't we just savor however love comes? *sigh!* fondly, Margie

The winds blow,
we toss like leaves.
Oh to be the wind,
not the scattered.

I knew you'd understand!
True love is for eternity, light years beyond the grave, and to seek that kind of love is a most noble and romantic aspiration ...

Thank you so much!! We really were so great together...sigh
You should probably not test love all the time, just let it be what it is. I guess that is the message that I see in your poem. Well done.

I enjoyed the poem. To appease God. Is it possible?

I like the hope and strong emotion in the words. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.
