You're An Old Soul

You're An Old Soul

A Poem by Barbara Walker

I think of you in there
and oh, it's more than I can bear.
Do others recognize on sight,
that you have a special inner light?
Though, you appear sweet and naive,
do they know how much your soul has had to bleed?
You're an old soul, who has heard many lies
and many lessons have made you wise.
Even old souls can make a mistake.
Why are those who judge, so filled with hate?

Easy to see mistakes. Hard to forgive. I like the thoughts raised up by this poem. In a long life. We can make many mistakes. I like the thoughts and memories create by this poem. Than you for the excellent poetry.

Very relatable Barbara, I've always thought of myself as an 'old soul'. Love the message in this one...great closing line.

i felt it. the last stanza says it all. all i can say is that we're never to old to learn and have mistakes, its part of life, a constant learning. great work.

From the wise to the wise, thank you very much, Michael!
I find that usually, the shorter poems are the most powerful and you've proven that to me with this poem. It had an unfaltering rhythm too it and the rhyme really complimented the piece well.

There's such truth in your words, too. I wish everyone could see an 'old soul' like you can. Awesome stuff!

Thank you so very much for your kind review. I have been blessed to be able to spot old souls often!
lovely words ,why ,do others not see
how this old soul really suffered
they never go deep and see that inner light i always see
how we always bleed,a way to heal, like the old days
they used to cut to make you bleed then you feel better
what similarity ,when we are way down and bleed a lot
how we feel much better for a while..ohh this life is strange as always
lovely write..
