Hypnosis.

Hypnosis.

A Poem by Fairy Khan

I keep catching your glimpses
Through the crevices
Of the tall weeping willows
Surrounding the fences
Where you always keep standing
With your heart of gold
And your hands of rock
Holding an incandescent lamp
Which should have been warm,
But isn't.

I gaze at your silhouette,
You are a dream.
I eat my heart out over you
And feed on my flesh,
Burning in this cold night,
And there you hold the elixir of my youth,
Clenched firmly
Between the claws of your anger and ego,
While you pretend to smile at me.

Beguiled,
I put my head into your trap
Of guilt and regret
Which aren't even mine,
And let go of your hand,
With a hope to land
In the field where lovers meet;
The heaven you once promised to me.

This is haunting. There is a mixture of self-deception and welcomed deceiver that makes the action feel quite heavy.

It seems the beloved, or once beloved, offered the promise of many beautiful things, but as is often the case, there was no real intention to deliver. To discover that we have been duped is painful. To further understand that the heart is under a spell not so easily broken is both painful and confusing. Truth does not always set us free.

You’ve described these things well in a dark and surreal context that is effectively chilling.

Indeed a most haunting melody as the protagonist reflects upon love now lost and expresses such sadness and regret but knows they are not totally responsible for the ending. It ends with a little hope for the future though but still one tied up in reflection and regrets. A flowing piece filled with pathos.

This strikes home in so many ways. The tortured heart, ever hopeful of a love that is given and yet never truly returned. Still, we are hopeful - someday.......
Nicely done.
Take care - Dave

So many twists and turns are the reality of many loves. You captured your thoughts and spun gold into your words.

Your poem is a powerful description of how we can become so mesmerized by our fantasies or our delusions, we are truly hypnotized by something that looks shiny, but is not. Your writing is sparkling & original, while describing something so relatable, & you do a great job of showing how deception lives right alongside ecstasy . . . last 5 lines of V1 are superb in this, as well as the last 3 lines of V2 . . . without even "seeing" who it is . . . just by feeling the vibe in your poem, I'm thinking: I KNOW THIS GUY! Love how you combine artful expression with dreary dynamic descriptions (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This poem spoke to me with a lot of pathos and longing for a love that feels as unattainable as a beautiful dream. You did a great job of bringing out the desperation, the guilt of longing and the ardor that the poet feels. The first verse was especially dreamy with the scenery you painted. Kudos! Keep writing. It was great to read your poetry. I'll return for more.

Broken promises, so difficult to come to terms with. Dashed hopes. I felt the disappointment here of being deceived. Someone who couldn't deliver on what he had led another to believe. What he did deliver on was pain, and that was felt here. Nicely penned Fairy.

love can be so hypnotic that we are in some kind of trance and simply don't see the bad side of people until it is too late....but once we break out of the hypnosis....we learn never to stare at that watch of love again....we become aware...guilt and regret are unhappy roommates.
excellent write, Fairy,
