Pilgrim

Pilgrim

A Poem by Filibustero Ibarra
"

"Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.." ~ 1 Corinthians 13:7-8

"

O generous lark, thou bless me with thy sweetened song

Thy untouched beauty brings light to the regions of my sight

But I am an unworthy man and my knees lack the strength

Do hear, I can only repay thee with eternal devotion

My heart and mind, both cultivated by the bygone summers

I shall give them to thee for they long for no other home

But thy sacred temple great and divine forever

I am pilgrim and thou an ethereal messenger

Thou came to me one autumn night while I was asleep

Upon hearing thy angelic voice, I awoke from sleep

Thou declared thyself as the daughter of the muse Euterpe

An invention of heavenly architecture and celestial frames

Descending to earthly horizons upon thy own will

To purge thy immortal self and instill mortal breathe into thy lungs

I offered thee my acceptance but I offered my heart as well

I gave thee a kind and peaceful refuge in this enlightened soul

Thy music dwells in me and so does the image of your love

Which is the very flame that lights the lamp that bears my life

The flame that perches on that candle on thy holy altar

She kills an inch of wax by the passing of each hour

But thy flame is pure, crafted within the forge of Hephaestus

Thy flame, reduced from sin into an immaculate tongue of light

She fills the heart of this traveler with the warmth of the morning sun

She sustains his hope and satisfies his longing for solace

Thou graced him with thy presence though his faith was weak

Thou received his gift and kept it like a treasure from the depths of the sea

O goddess of the sun, whom my skies worship and my nights praise

I shall trespass these hallowed gates and their brave guardians

For I know that thou art the reward of my faithful voyage

Keep the warmth of thy soft arms burning in my heart

And thy graceful songs frozen here beside my docile ears

Let them resound that I may remember thee in every step I take

Now I shall depart to fulfill my quest, taking my prayers with me

With a kiss, I give my all to you!

With a kiss, take my life!
