Our Deeds will Sing (Let Freedom Ring)

Our Deeds will Sing (Let Freedom Ring)

A Poem by Filibustero Ibarra
"

I wrote this poem out of inspiration from Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech and the deeds of freedom fighters who defended the oppressed through non-violence, such as Gandhi.

"

Oh, shall the tyrant try thy brave heart

Fear not and raise the sacred banner proud

Summon thy courage, to the fields depart

Carry not a sword, but faith avowed

Let no drop of blood shed by thy hands

For it can only prove the beast’s anger

Comrade, be calm and rally the bands

The rich and the poor, friend and stranger

Bear each of his blows with a youthful zeal

Raise thy head, he throws his bloodied sword

Whisper a prayer and still unbowed, kneel

And fall to the ground silent, without a word

Thy blood and mine will hallow the field

And our cries will resonate in the breeze

Beyond the grass and their poppy yield

Across each stone and through the trees

Over the mountains, our deeds will sing

Gentle yet immortal, “Let freedom ring!”
