A Poem by ABetterPlace

Floating in the arms of the sea
I think of nothing,
Not even you, whom my heart loves.

Here, where no one needs me,
Nothing lays its claim
at the foot of my conscience.

Responsibility and its weight
I give over to the water
to carry in its depths and blue depths.

My empty spaces echo with whale song
and the rushing heartbeat of the waves.

I like this a lot. There are so many great novels and poems of the sea and yet there is always something new to bring to the table which you have done here. I can feel the emotion of the words and even the pace of this poem seems to mimic the rhythmic sway of ocean waves. It also raises so many great questions; are we simply going with the current? Is the direction of our lives our own choice? Great poetry asks us this and you have done that here with this.

You carry the metaphor of the ocean and it's influences perfectly right through to conclusion. Stong opening line and the middle stanza just oozes calm. Nice poem. Penny
