Growing Up

Growing Up

A Poem by CC

I felt something new today

Rummaging around in the blood

And the guts

I never understood what people meant

When they said they were scared

Of love

When they broke things they wanted

When they ran from people they might

Have run towards

It’s a dull, heavy thing

Like lead, or rusted steel

But it’s here now

In the pit of my stomach

I think it’s a rock-scar-medal-chain

That’s smashed into you

After you learn for the first time

“That falling only feels like flying

Until you hit the ground.”
