ideology at eighty or so

A Poem by James Paulin
"

(Fidel Castro meets Pope Benedict March 29, 2012)

"

patriarch and demagogue

aged, mellow, wise in truth

open hearted dialogue

spent, those zealous days of youth

power and philosophy

once pounded and expounded

submits to simplicity~

Gods’ sole objective found

In _Death on a Friday Afternoon_, Neuhaus writes about "the simplicity on the other side of complexity." This poem makes me think of that, and of my 90-year-old mother, who embodies this exact simplicity -- 'God's sole objective." I like the simple wording of the poem itself.

The only word I feel doesn't fit is ...mellow.

We both know truth is relative to the perception of a speaker AND a listener - as each "hears" their own version. I wish the world well - different people stood as they thought best when they thought best until it became about them and not the ones they had needed to stand up for.
