Coffe shop Girl

Coffe shop Girl

A Poem by flaco

I noticed her step through the door to the coffee shop one Saturday morning

Holding two mugs of her own

Her body still warm from the bed just vacated and the lover still there.

Her clothes  the same as what she wore  the night before

She didn't know she would spend the night

Young, pretty, slowly and contently she came to the counter

One   black the other with room.

To the table for cream, a couple sugar packets and  back out the door

Still slowly and just as pretty she walks to the corner

and just like that she is gone

I sighed from the beauty of that moment and  longed to be the one who was waiting

The one she was bringing the coffee to.

Let me just start by pointing out the title of your piece. It was really very intriguing because I imagined tons of different ways you could have taken it. That's what drew me into this poem, was the vague title, it gave me a hint of what I was clicking, but it didn't gave away the idea of your poem. I really like the mystery you've woven into the poem, it's the perfect length so you don't give anything away to your readers that would take the mystery away. I love how the poem is simply about a short exchange the narrator had with this girl, and even though he knew the stranger had someone waiting for her, he still allowed himself to think about her enough for this poem to be a poem. What a great structure for such a common idea. I really love this.

I really love a flight of imagination like this. Your poem gives us permission to take flight on such whimsical fantasies when life presents us with some. I love the idea of people watching & your poem gives just enuf details to figure out the scene without going all verbose. I had already figured out that this observer wishes he could go home with the lady, even before you said that. The longing preceded your confession. Great realistic everyday fun! I could conjure the scene with much clarity. Perhaps all that was left of her was a pillaging scent of her hair or her skin. I can imagine how it would replay over and over in your mind...longing to be the one she was returning to.

we all do this i think. we observe people in our day-to-day routines and try to fill in the blanks about them while we wonder and daydream. you capture our attention yet leave us wondering. sometimes things are better that way with a little mystery. so many things happen over a cup of coffee. coffee shops are great fodder for this type of thing. ... :)
