FORGOTTEN

FORGOTTEN

A Poem by FlawedByDesign

FORGOTTEN

The picture of me in
your eyes has faded into
the melancholy of black and white.
The love therein locked away
in the gaze of another.

You’ve closed the shutters and
chased the sun from my sky.
The world that persists
bleeds monotony.
The colours run and hide
in the gray you left behind.

My springs no longer bloom,
the summer afraid to show its face
through the darkness and gloom,
while the autumn leaves
cascade in sadness, and
the snow never wakes.

I’ve died in your dreams.
Now the memory of me wanders
the chasm of your sub-conscience;
forever trapped, unwanted.
I’ve been forgotten.

The third stanza is very powerful. While the poem mentions all of the seasons, the only one that even exists anymore is fall, "while the autumn leaves cascade in sadness." I found the line symbolic of falling out of time and place; the narrator no longer has a purpose for he has been forgotten. Powerful.

Forgotten.Being forgotten is sad but better than never having made any impression

how deftly you capture the feeling of regret and loss when those we love no longer return our love and we feel lost and nothing seems the same without them...the sweet notes we sang are now off-key...the colors are drab and lifeless...our skin is bereft of the caresses that once made us feel invincible...our world lacks that roseate glow our love imbued to everything around us and we sink into the drabness our life has now become...
It's a pain we all feel and know at some point in our life...
Wonderfully written...

So sad! I love the emotion in your writing and the way you describe your pain. "You've closed the shutters and chased the sun from my sky. My springs no longer bloom, the summer afraid to show its face, through the darkness and gloom, while the autumn leaves cascade in sadness, and the snow never wakes." Perfect! Great poem! :)
