THE POWER OF LOVE

She stood looking into the mirror
as tears streamed down her face.
Oh how she wished she could be
in another time and place.

His picture sat there on the mantle
memories of a happier day.
T’was their very first Christmas together,
spent riding around in a sleigh.

But this year she’ll be without him,
she’s not sure how she’ll get by;
she prays God will keep him safe,
as she wipes the tear from her eye.

He is fighting a war far away,
with only a tent for a home.
Her letters his only solace
they keep him from feeling alone.

She walked into the winter night,
as snowflakes fell soft in her hair;
she whispered her love to the wind
as sounds of joy filled the air.

And somewhere across the ocean,
a soldier could feel on his cheek,
the gentle stroke of her love,
as the wind lulled him into sleep.

An amazing example of love, and in only a few lines you made me fully committed to their love story and its endeavors. A truly captivating piece.

Lovely but poignant imagery. Your story has another side, the one that I know, and that is of the lonely, homesick guy who's stuck somewhere on the other side of the world, gazing at his precious photos of wife and family. Military life demands great sacrifice of us all. Thanks for sharing these tender thoughts, forrestcook.
