sojourn

A Chapter by freelancejouster

sirens wail in the distance,
or perhaps the foreground
as the motley crew
of teenage miscreants
approaches the towering building.

comforting red plus sign
emblazoned on it's front;
patients streaming in
and out of the glass double doors.

their fallen friend,
scooped between the tallest two,
with flickering eyelids
and a dreamy,
overdose-created smile,
mumbling about how lovely everything is
and how she doesn't want to go back
to where they borrowed her from.

"can't i stay?"

shh whispered the girl,
pushing back the friend's hair softly,
it's only for a little while.

though, they all know
that once she goes back in,
she won't be coming back out.

I love the whole concept of this book. Great idea! The poems are wonderful.

they did the right thing taking her to the hospital. although it's probably not entirely her fault for the condition she is in right now. excellent anecdote.
