~I never did learn to fly

~I never did learn to fly

A Poem by Frieda P

...and I never did learn to fly
   always trying to take flight
came close a time or two,
could never quite get off the ground
wings were clipped as a fledgling
       stories written on caged walls
echoed, yet there were no lyrics to sing
without a voice on a prayer
plummeted to  abysm's bottomless pit
till I could feel no more
there in the dark stillness lie the secret
rhythm and music filled the air
Found the poetry within my soul
realized the wings were in my heart
all along, I was meant to dance

Never quite learned to fly, but you know how to dance... Beautifully portrayed piece. This one speaks to the beauty of human nature, in my opinon. We so often try (bang our heads against the wall) to be something that we are not, when the truth of our souls is hidden within all the time, waiting to be unlocked. Really enjoyed this one...

i too was made to dance not fly...but in my head and mind, i fly when i dance....to some far off place where the beat keeps me sane.

nicely done...did you mean "fledgling"?

we drop down as far as we can plummet...but dancing can bring us up out of the abyss.

i like jo jo's line in "Across the Universe"

"music is the only thing that matters...play it loud enough, it keeps the demons at bay"

Everything the followed the opening ellipsis is pure and unadulterated Frieda, and yet that ellipsis has a stranglehold on my imagination...I don't recall you ever opening a poem this way (if you have, forgive me, you're aware of the swiss cheese I call my current memory) but if you have, it is not affected me like it has here...we both know already that your words are golden, but I can't help wondering what was going through your mind before that first line was penned...but it is not the destiny of the reader to know that...familiar pleasures, Mrs.R :) xo

This is beautiful writing. I loved the feel and idea of your poem. The last few lines were very powerful. Congratulations.

Thank you for your visit Bob and such a gracious review.
Those last three lines choked me up a bit... not sure why other than the fact that the whole piece is beautifully written, and comes to a satisfying sigh of contentment in these lines.

Wow Rita, I didn't expect that reaction but I'm thrilled it was so affecting, thank you muchly.
First of all I am so glad you wrote this, Frieda....This truly lifted my heart...

The picture at the end is amazing and speaks volumes... It shows relevance and resilience...
However, your words are the essence of your soul and that is what truly shines here...

Lovely write! ~xoxoxo~

P.S. I enjoyed the song as well... tranquil!

Sweet lee, grazie mille.
a poetic heart is always dancing and a dancing heart is always flying... i am envious, you have the best of all hearts.... i am not one for fate and i think we are always searching for more in life, if not, don't we then die inside, even if just a little... Frieda, write and dance to the skies!!!! did i say i really enjoyed your poem.... ----redzone

Sounds like that might hurt Starry, thanks muchly.
Oh, but you DO fly, Frieda....you soar with the butterflies every time you write a beautiful poem like this one. We are all meant to express ourselves differently in life. There is no doubt you were meant to be a poet. Your words do dance across the page and when I get to the last line, I am disappointed. Just lovely! Lydi**
