~I never did learn to fly

~I never did learn to fly

A Poem by Frieda P

...and I never did learn to fly
   always trying to take flight
came close a time or two,
could never quite get off the ground
wings were clipped as a fledgling
       stories written on caged walls
echoed, yet there were no lyrics to sing
without a voice on a prayer
plummeted to  abysm's bottomless pit
till I could feel no more
there in the dark stillness lie the secret
rhythm and music filled the air
Found the poetry within my soul
realized the wings were in my heart
all along, I was meant to dance

Never quite learned to fly, but you know how to dance... Beautifully portrayed piece. This one speaks to the beauty of human nature, in my opinon. We so often try (bang our heads against the wall) to be something that we are not, when the truth of our souls is hidden within all the time, waiting to be unlocked. Really enjoyed this one...

I'm truly humbled by your review RQ, thanks so much......
I love how you accepted your destiny here from always wanting to fly away but at the end you realized that you were meant to dance with the rhythm of love and life. If you fly away , you will fly solo but if you dance and sing you will touch many and many lives ...A very beautiful poem...:)

Ha like that Mark, I might quote you....
Don't they say it is through our trials and mistakes that we find ourselves?
Sometimes we think we're on the right road, only to realize we're meant for something else entirely. Other times, it takes a kick to the gut for us to appreciate that we're on the right road, but have been looking at it from the wrong angle.
So much being said in your poem, Frieda. Love the expression (and the picture is perfect with this) and the thought provoking nature of the verse. Well done, my friend.
