objects in the shatter'd mirror

objects in the shatter'd mirror

A Poem by Frieda P
"

~just smile

"
I am not who you think I am,
I'm not even who I think I am
smile plastered to my cheeks
it licks my face like a sick puppy dog
in a facade of delusional grandeur
making up the tiny fragments remaining,
truths rummage this road as a junkyard sale
formidable blinking caution signs
constantly stroking the thruways of time
gazing through a twisted kaleidoscopic frame
       pictures and memories always speeding
a million miles per hour in s l o w motion
sharpened edges cut into line of  sight
perplexing thoughts run amuck amidst gray matter
what you see is an unfurled, damaged model
illusions of what once was, now being showcased
 mechanics of life's inner workings
display for a staged marionette behind the wheel
shattered within the soul's dimly lit view
lost control of whitewash ambivalence,
crashed  on the highway of burning intentions
life           is never as it appears

My friend, I feel this one so deeply in my bones that I think I broke a few making my way through it...this poem speaks to me in unspeakable volumes...I can't put into words how much I relate to this piece, if I could I would have written it cuz this is an absolute masterwork...then again, when do you not write those?

The first four lines took my breath away...I wish I wrote those. Not even who I think I am...I didn't make it to the third line before having to stop and just close my eyes for a moment to let it sink in...I know how that feels, so well. Thank you my sweet friend, for writing and sharing this irresistible cry from the heart...xo

I used to listen to this song all the time...are you surprised Mrs.R? Probably not ;)

the engine of the mind is a complex piece of work, even the owner finds it hard to fine tune, nice song too, I like that one, both actually.....

No doubt, especially when you can't get spare parts, and happy st paddys day to you...
I love this poem Frieda cause it drips with self awareness and self doubt (whether it's your reflection or not). Mirrors only reflect partial reality, not the entire reality of someone sometimes even distorting reality (your example of objects appearing closerr than they are.. it's true that we sometimes only see or are seen by others based on what we want to show of ourselves or of others assumptions and distorted views... but it is possible to know someone's worth, beauty and heart even if only a partial knowing is there to see.I know beyond those mirrors, shattered visions of damaged and junk yard sales, of speeding in slow motion to cuts so deep marrow can be seen, cause they are not only or even mainly what I see in, about, around you. Nothing is distorted, just an alive poet, a woman who shows us what poetry means and enriches our lives... who needs mirrors when this kind of reality exists.... hmmm and now you want proof, once again your poem is all the proof needed and I rest my case!!!!

I am not who you think I am,
I'm not even who I think I am ...

These lines pulled me in, and the rest of the piece held me captive. Amazing and thoughtful, Frieda. Why does the past still nip at our heels? And why do we insist on looking back...

Good question Rita, no answers here, thanks for your thoughts my friend.
Oh Frieda, this poems brings up so many memories, from my past that I am unable to express myself, in words. As if, you have watched my life, played before you, on the state-of-the-art video system.

Ahhh you and BR....
Who are we really? Do we reveal our innermost feelings even to the mirror or do we always wear a bit of a mask because the truth is just a little too shocking? There is no "Whitewashed ambivalence" in this poem....just intense emotion....and as always I am in awe of your talent, my friend. Great Meatloaf song.....I am a fan of his. Lydi**
