Mine enemy

Mine enemy

A Poem by Frieda P

"
All around me lies
   All around me lies
    provocation's prick
in deafening silences,
   the evocation of
        old memories
  as life rambles on,
like a freak show
  purging impurities in
  wild abandon's rhythm
on the precipice
    of great peril
 within delusion's face,
      it fornicates anything
        resembling sanity
what is this perusal's power
     that exalts itself,
  left behind to tremble
         at pithy feet,
engulfing every
 breathless intention,
  raking over any
        normality of
          rhyme's  existence
how to  fight these
 outposts of disparity,
   whilst inequality's
 dissatisfaction chimes
       its vocal chants,
can't be attuned
within hostile prejudice
            nor pressured walls
   can one stand
a chance
 at redemption
             or resurgence,
   when that inner
disparaging
voice sabotaging
 utmost scrutiny's
reflection,
 is really mine own

Hmmm...feels like you were peeking inside my head. Ugly place in there...full of some dark corners and really negative crap. My own worst enemy lives there too...always has. Sigh...now if I could just stop listening to her voice long enough to get the hell back on track. Pfftttt...x

Thousand foot krutch :D I didn't expect this taste in music from you but you always do find some new way to surprise..and I love it each time like it was the first time. Freaking Conscience..always telling me what to do. Who made it boss, Oh right I did.. I'm Mine Enemy. Great stuff wordsmith.

It really is scary how negative our self talk can be. Most people are at the very least their own worst critic, if not their own worst enemy. Very well said doll!

This is just... wow, Frieda! I love this. There felt to be some dark undertones to this thought provoking piece. Fighting our demons, which at times, are really ourselves. I loved it. But you know me, I love the dark side of things. xo :)

Oh Frieda, Frieda, Frieda, I have lived your words during what I like to call my two lost decades, and even beyond and unto these calmer, more honest days. The darkness which can reside within the thoughts of mankind is terrifying and absolutely devastating to the one who is harboring them. Even the so-called "free spirit's" among us who who seemingly can shrug off what life throws at them are still beset with their own demons, I am sorta involved with one of them now an, although she hides it well most of the time, her dark emerges. Okay, I see I got carried away. It was your excellent poem that did it.

This is a thought provoking piece. With me, it is a constant struggle. I could relate to this.

The flow and structure to it is even and the piece brings forward a declaration, or should I say challenge of open struggle to/with the self.

We are always toughest on ourselves. Eau de sabotage is my favorite perfume.

Awesome write as always. Your poems always are expressed with a lot of emotion, and this one did not let me down. I loved the opening stanza!

Well of course. We all get like this at times. I think the trick is to realize it and let it pass without letting it become action. Loved this write, Frieda.
