Glance from before

Glance from before

A Poem by Lox
"

Here's what I would do if I ever revert back in time to my younger self

"
How I plea to return
To a moment forgone
To redo all mistakes
Lay claim, my passion

What's done is done
The past's past passed
The regrets of today
Reaped from relapse

But given the chance
To go back to before
I'd bring my memories with me
And change nothing more

The chance to go back
Is a chance to relive it
The time I had been
Is a time I had lived

The regrets I now have
I know haunts me to this day
But if not for such tragedy
Would I become who I say

I am myself! I am me
Would have it nothing else
I would relive my past
To every breath, every pulse

Recount the joys
Along with the sorrows
Repeat everything as is
Whether won or lost

Ah, though this I cannot
I lay here awaiting a chance
A scenario only from dreams
A fleeting image at a glance

really like the sixth line...nice play on words...
we hopefully learn from the past ...but i think we spend too much time regretting what's done...it is done...and at the time we made the best decisions we could...Monday morning quarterbacks always send in the right plays, the day after the game is over.

I think all thinking people can relate to this-- I've come to realize, if you didn't have regrets, you had no free will.

I guess everyone had regrets. Then again, having no free will is a regret in by itself
"...But if not for such tragedy
Would I become who I say..." strong piece, very thought-provoking.

That'll be nice. I'd recommend 'We are who we are.' Thanks
I'll bet everybody wishes they could go back. I know I wish I could. I'd redo so much and even change events as well as avoid certain people I've known.

Your poem is quite relatable.

I'm almost 64 & at this age, regret can be crippling to many. I've always believed just what you're saying here . . . this is my life, this is what made me who I am! There's a ton of bad behavior & dumb actions, but I have learned to love all of it. I think getting to this point of acceptance is when we finally learn to live. I love how express your philosophical viewpoints in creative ways, leaving space for the reader to take this in different directions (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I'm touched *smile*
We are who we are because of our regrets, our lost opportunities, those chased chances. I like how you play with this in the lines

I am myself! I am me
Would have it nothing else

This is truth. Nicely done.

The past is the past. You have to let it go. No good beating yourself up over things that are long gone. Make sure you don't make similar mistakes in the future. Regrets aren't easy to deal with. Relatable poem.

You are aware of them. That is enough :) Enjoyed the read.
Your exact past made you, exactly you.
Ii is profoundly wise to fully accept--even, revel in--your unalterable personal history.
Excellent poem!
