The Angles of Mathematics

The Angles of Mathematics

A Poem by gabiaimee
"

There are many, but I wasn't in class the day we learned them

"
They said I'd use math over the years and the months.
Well, I haven't needed Algebra once.
The Pythagorean Theorem makes perfect sense.
But I haven't used Geometry since.
Is it a sin to be tan? Cos I'm at the beach
instead of in Trig because I know I won't need it.
And now that I sit here counting my cash
I still don't regret not paying attention in math.

I was told the same way and I sweat with this thing from the day I learned how to count my fingers and toes. But I like the way you place your words in a sweet sarcasm to really let the schools and universities know that we don't really need them. It should be optional or tailored to a students needs and interest instead of being mandatory and shoves down the student's throat. I just need the basic like Addition Subtraction Multiplication Division. Thats really all we need and we used these all the time.

Again I like the way you custom made your thoughts. It invoke common sense. I'm glad you didn't pay attention. I did and I still didn't get it. To some and particularly me is like making a fish climb a tree and if the fish couldn't climb a tree or compete its like it has no chance of making it in the big blue ocean.
The line " Is it a sin to be tan ? Because I'm at the beach ? " I really giggle with this. Its both clever and cute. But I love and like the beauty and smartness of this piece.

Its a simple logic that questions the way our current system tries to fit everyone and everybody on the same mold. Its like a monkey and a fish competing who would be the fastest to climb a tree and the fastest to make it on top will be the first honor, the zuma cum laude of the class...

I agree with the reviewer below. This poem has such a smoothness to it. I love how you incorporated math vocabulary into it too!

Nicely written and the rhyme is smooth to the read. I think we all know about Algebra and how we were told we would always nee it but we all knew that was a lie.
