The Music that they played (The Harlem Renaissance)

The Music that they played (The Harlem Renaissance)

A Poem by Gavin Keary
"

I wrote this piece for a class assignment my Freshman year in high school.

"

The music that they played was from their heart

and soul. As proud as the whites, though their

skin, black as coal. The white man opressed

them, blacks whipped and torn. They endured,

however, and picked up that horn. The music

they played, o what a tune! This music would

make history very soon. So, I end this poem

with a few last words: their trumpets allways

play, forever heard.

Wow! I loved this. It had a certain depth that is hard to capture when writing about reality. The structure is perfect. I liked the whole poem. Great write!
