Junk Food Junkie

Junk Food Junkie

A Poem by G. K. Bostic

I'm feeling awfully restless

As I pace across the floor.

I had a snack an hour ago

But now I'm craving more.

I want something sweet, gooey and good

But I hate to go out in the cold,

Bundle up, drive to the grocery store..

Yet my yearning just won't be consoled.

So I sit back down in my easy chair,

Turn on the TV, boot up the computer...

Maybe I just need a little distraction

So I won't be a kitchen looter.

No, I really need  some chocolate

Though cookies or chips might do.

There's no ice cream in the freezer

What am I going do?

There's lots of food in the pantry,

but nothing fulfills my need.

The craving keeps growing within me

I must feed my yearnings greed.

Ah. the answer is clear - I've remembered!

Last week I bought Hershey's Kisses.

I hid them away in my lingerie drawer

Ha!  My craving shall now get its wishes!

Love this....shades of Shel Silverstein abound brilliantly here...and that is a high compliment from where I sit. Very fun write.
cheers!

After reading the first stanza, I cracked up---that sounds like me! I enjoyed reading this smooth write---your very well-selected choice of words make this a fun-reading poem! I'm not sure about others, but I know I can relate to this . . . it's amazing how I feel hungry NOW that I've read this!

Actually, I think the second stanza is fine. The way I read it, the words had a good flow. Anyway, I love this poem :P I crave ice cream all the time. And when I say all the time, I mean -all- the time. ...almost. haha.

This is a really cute poem, and I can definitely relate! I would just suggest that you reread the poem out loud so that you can easily pinpoint which lines need a syllable or two trimmed off or added on (hint: the second stanza is a great place to start)
