Old FriendA Poem by G.MOld Friend Rushing up to greet
me, Like an old friend
from many years ago, It wavers, and pauses Considering how to
approach With fake laughs and
smiles Or genuine pleasure At it’s joy for
returning home. Turning away I try to
ignore it The consistent
nagging Picking at my mind
bit by bit Trying to unravel the
web Of memories and happy
times. It does not act
quickly, Instead it plucks Slowly at first Trying to find a
thread That will lead
straight into the center Of my weak and
venerable soul That will lead it to
the richness Of the inner human
being Where it will feed. It will gouge itself On the pleasantries
of life gone and life to come It will eat until my
soul is empty When nothing is left
within, It will turn To the shell Of the hollow human And it will devour
that too It will keep consuming Wasting me away Bit by bit When nothing is left When only a grave
remains It will be satisfied And it will be full On the joy and
happiness That was never
experienced On the times that
never were For lack of energy Or motivation Or will The delights of life
were missed Adding to the pile Of absent memories, That never were, And never will be For this old friend
came And it saw everything Nothing was hidden And this friend, Destroyed this human, Until there was no
end. G.M © 2014 G.M |
