Expectations Wither

About how expectations can cause you to lose what you are trying so hard to obtain.

It runs over and over in my head

Like a movie playing again and again

I toss and turn in my bed

I see the meeting, the eyes and then

 

I come along and find you smiling at me

And I have just the right words to say

I see us together walking the shore, free

And by my side,  I feel you want to stay

 

Over and over the dream relived I see

Over and over in so many different ways

I catch your eye, you are there as if waiting for me

And then we are on a swing as we sway

 

I see myself through your eye and hear

All the things you've always wanted, swept away

And together our joy I see complete, to tear

It is a perfect night, soft breeze in early May

 

I see you in the stairway, I walk over

And I realize this is the time, it is finally here

You find a reason to take a step closer

And as we come together so close, coming clear

 

So many times it has all played out

You finding me and I finding you

It has to be, it has to be, no doubt

But another day comes and goes, still blue

 

I long for us to sing together

I long for the laughter, I hear each day

I long for your Beauty, change of weather

I long for the feeling of being in your sway

 

And then at last the moment comes, finally

We are really coming together, I see it coming

I start to do what has played out so many times perfectly

But it all falls short, not what it was in my mind, crumbling

 

Oh, and now the hope dream is traded for the dashed dream

And now it plays over and over what might have been

And now through the night I listen to my Heart scream

Oh, what could have been, and now to try and live again

 

And yet as the days and months go by, it lessons sum

You find you can cope and no longer with this anticipation

There are days when you're okay, you smile and laugh some

Then she walks in and by surprise it all comes true, what sensation

 

And now weeks past, always together, sharing dreams

You look back and realize it was those expectations

They kept you from what could be, breaking you at the seems

For the time did come when you left them behind, a moment revelations

 

Now you walk together along that shore, Hearts free

Now you find that all has come to greet you and share the dream

For the shadows left behind can no longer haunt what Love Sees

And in the moment is where you live and dream your future dream
