Turquoise and Tears

Turquoise and Tears

A Poem by Ghost

Turquoise and Tears

Hear the cry, the weep of songs of sorrows past,

The forgotten beats from the native drums,

Shadows dancing around the night fire,

Feel the chant of great medicine men and warriors of many tribes.

Think back and live these visions through your dreams,

Imagine what it must have been like,

To have had such a raging spirit,

That leaves torture in their souls and fire burning for life.

Envision Alope sitting there with Geronimo by her side,

The campfire’s glowing embers in the background,

With gray wolves not as pets, but free to be their friends,

Spirit and body, these two are one.

Listen and hear the soulful sound,

Mother Earth, Father Sky claiming their spirits when they die,

Sailing images in the clouds, as the eagle soars high,

All that remains of their love, their life is turquoise and tears….

This is one of the best of your poems that I've read so far. I have a strong affinity for the Native ways, since I'm an outdoor person who finds my spirituality in nature. I love the way your message is a celebration of the old native traditions, often forgotten or never known by many. I love the details you use thru-out, such as turquoise, Mother Earth, Father Sky, & the lasting medicine of Native spirituality. Great message! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
