Outrun Her Memory

Outrun Her Memory

A Poem by Ghost

Outrun Her Memory

I loved her for the way she could silence my demons,

But she haunts me like a ghost, everywhere I go,

In my dreams, she is that shadow chasing me,

Where visions of her, live in my heart.

If I stop too long our past has a chance to catch up with me,

Even when there is distance she still gathers in my thoughts,

The sound of her name is like a song within my soul,

And bittersweet is my fantasy of her.

I can only pick myself up and run from here,

But running, hiding will never be far enough,

Even the mists of time cannot erase the laughter we shared,

Nothing can remove her light from my eyes,

As I try to get past our love, I Just can't outrun her memory...

What a heartfelt and haunting poem, though it’s not overly sad. I feel something positive in it, despite the lamenting.

I don’t know why, but I seem to lock in on one line in your poems. This was no different. Loved this one:

“The sound of her name is like a song within my soul” ❤️

Good write!

Heartfelt lamentation does match the tone in this piece. When I read the title to this, my thoughts ran wild with how many ways to dissect the title alone. I really do like the title. Outrunning the memory does sound like a try sport. It also sounds as if the speaker has an exhaustion to their expression. It may be due to the nostalgia that eats them of this woman. Despite this weariness, there is a certain level bittersweet. The speaker seems to value this memory of her versus harping on their own demons. This is why I thought the title an oxymoron. Suppression could only take us so far because after awhile we have to face fears even we weren't aware of. This reminds me of my poem I recently posted here entitled, "Undefined Fears." I really enjoyed reading this piece. Great read.

i relate to this so deeply...one of my best friends...so many years ago i lost to a fire...she still haunts me, but the thoughts are comforting...she was such a giving person...so warm....so caring...i miss her forever even though in ways she is still with me and always will be.

Without any doubt, these words & their message of both hope and desperation are in my humble and honest opinion some of your finest yet and if I did not have a back ache from gardening, I would give ya a standing ovation my fine literary friend and poet...........Neville
