Today I play a somber song

Today I play a somber song

A Poem by Lydia Waldock

Today I play a somber song
The lack of melody sits with the ache in my heart
Withered and old
Fading so far away
How do memories hold up with age?
Wrinkles and hearts hardly pumping

Today I write a somber song
No funeral march surrounded by sleep
Generations will go by as I age into dust
Gravel and bones
Heaven above hear my cry take them in your heart

Today I sing a somber song
Black and white keys are tired of being used for poetry
How you loved to sing and hear music
With the light leaving your eyes do you hear music or his voice?
You’ll be with him soon because today

I play a somber song

Please be polite in reviewing this one, it is about mourning as my nana is rather close to passing.

I love music dear Lydia. I have many muses who help me write. I do like the sober songs. The deep and Jazz make me remember and sometimes bleed again. I am sorry for you loss. Death teaches us the saddest songs. We miss faces and we miss voices. Thank you for sharing the poetry. I create a memory book. I am old and I want my children, my grandchildren to know the people who loved me.

Such an emotive piece, and I love how the title lent itself as a thread that ran continuously through. I lost my Nan at the age of 92. She was dearer to me than life itself, so I can fully relate to the love that is here. Nice to meet you, Lydia!
