Safe & Sound

Inspired by the song by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars

A latern held high

Soft words floating about

It hurts to breath

 

Inhaling smoke

Crying in despair

The world is crumbling now

 

Lights flare

A cool embrace

On your feet now child

 

Burning everywhere

Keep pushing onwards

Eyes shut tight

 

Running through the night

Tears making trails

Wails heard through the air

 

Light burst through

Everything's lit up

Everything's blazing

 

Eyes opening

The air is clear

The sun is shining

 

The night is gone

The day is here

Lullabies fill the air

 

Author's Note

I couldn't really write a good poem because Taylor and the Civil Wars captured it so perfectly. I basically just wrote the first thing that popped into my head when I listened to the song.

I love this! It's rather breezy and serene yet there's something about strength in this poem as well. Very nice combination. ;D And, btw, I hate the Hunger Games. Teenagers murdering each other is rather disturbing. Yeah, aren't I one to crash a party? xD But this poem is great! (:
