City of Lights

City of Lights

A Poem by Lale
"

I could write about my lovely city forever

"
Hi
this is where
it all begins
the sun
the wind
the memories
I close my eyes
and I hear
loud voices and laughters
I smell
fragnances of winter
and spring
Keep me in your heart
for I shall
never forget
thee

Bye
I'm running away
from you
because i can
no longer
tame
the heartbeats
indside this cage
I'm running away
from you
because you're so contagious
you make me sick

                                                                                                                                                                                          So
                               Until we meet again
                               or not..

Memories of the beginning romance in the glow of winter; then the parting, not so sweet, the heartbeats need to be tamed; the need to be free; your contagion (?) is “making me sick“
Well created and lovely to read, flows well, best, Betty

I don't know what city you are referring to & it doesn't matter becuz I don't read this as being about a city. I read this as being about any number of possibilities . . . it could be a location, a person, a mood, an era, a dream. I love the ambivalence of showing "hi" & "bye" -- since we always have some love & some hate in every irresistible draw that pesters us thru life. For me, this is reminiscent of how life used to be before we were all wearing masks & bickering about politics, when our voices weren't muffled & our smiles not veiled, when we could put our noses on top of something & sniff the fragrances around us instead of keeping our distance. This is a great poem to me becuz it stirs a TON of ideas about who/what is being addressed here (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Dear Lale, your lines reminded me of how I was born in the city and how the early years of my life was dominated by the surroundings, the hustle and bustle of people and places. Then I left. I am now a country gal and I have no desire to ever live in the city again and neither can I imagine visiting. That's where your lines took me. I hope you are keeping well my friend. All good wishes.

Chris

City of lights can refer to Paris or New York. My native city we called town of 100 towers or mother with 100 towers. Places what we love can sometimes became our haunted castles. At cities we got so many lights, sounds, smells. Sometimes we have to move or will killing us. I like again your sublime delicate words put into mosaic of your mind. Sometimes we can return and feel again beauty what we forgot. But i member when i was visited my hometown 10 years ago. I feel like i cannot regornized this place anymore. I said my good byes .

i have a place...from my youth...been back once, 40 years later...spent much time there.
It was a country place...farms, pastures the beauty i felt in my bones.
we might meet again...not sure...but hopeful...
