Just Like it Never Happened

Just Like it Never Happened

A Poem by Ironbutt
"

Like the proverbial question " if a tree falls in the woods.." sometimes the fog has away of taking the reality away from a moment

"
Catching the breeze on a starlit eve..you holding on tight..
on the back of my 71 scoot, romance and candlelight..
blanket for the ground on my handlebars..
saddle bags full of brews..
time for a little kickstand down..
just me and you....
But all of that is just a memory.. lost in the fogs war...
hard to recall how that kiss felt or the wind anymore....
like it never happened...
Feet and knees together boy..get a good exit out that door..
coming in low in here tonight rough landing will get you sore..
rolled and tucked just like I should ..linked up with the rest of the men..
should have been a cut and go.. well that was the plan back then..
seems you can get into a situation or two..seconds slow like the sweat on your face...
when folks who are watching the news at home ..dont know you're in a different place........
But all of that is just a memory...lost in the fogs of war...
caint feel the piss running down my leg or how scared I was no more...
almost like it never happened....ya like it never happened...
Finished the last minute of the test..focus on the points..
dont see the inspectors gathering round..
something going on folks.....
grader checks out my work.. seconds tick on by..
then he pats me on the back says I have passed the test just fine..
by the way he yells at me as I head BACK TO MY CLASS..
YOUR WIFE SAID NOT TO LET YOU KNOW YOU'RE A NEW DAD..UNTIL YOU HAD PASSED!
So many things have been obscured by the hanging fogs of war...
yet memories like that keep hanging on...
Knees in the breeze in 82...
sweet smell of you... that 71...
Boys that was a tough one.. job well done....
Dad........
Just like it never happened.....
