The Big Black Cloud

The Big Black Cloud

A Poem by I Cast a Shadow
"

A poem inspired by Shel Silverstein and those instances in cartoons when a storm cloud keeps following the main character. I feel this way from time to time. Enjoy.

"

A big black cloud came in today.

The sky was blue but now it is grey.

I do not feel like going outside.

I just need some place and to hide.

That big black cloud, it follows me there. . .

It fills the screens,

It’s behind the chair!

It’s in my bed,

It’s at the store,

It even nests upon my head!

How will I ever get away?

With a great black cloud?

I try to speak and it comes out loud!

But oh!

What’s this?

All is not lost?

For it seems that all things do not come with a cost.

A ray of light was hidden away.

It was right behind the cloud all day!

With that black cloud I could not see

My ray of light was shining at me.

I must have been daffy; a nutter; insane!

Because there’s always light somewhere;

Even in rain.

I’ll try to remember but will probably forget.

That I have a light to chase every fret.

I’ll hold it tight and won’t ever let go

And I’ll give it love that a big black cloud can’t even know.
