Rain and Resolve

Rain and Resolve

A Poem by Frances Smart
"

Follow up to my poem Rain

"

You broke my heart

And left me standing in the rain

You shattered my peace

And threw me aside

Like a broken seashell on the beach

And just as you went merrily on your way

Out of my life

So many years ago

In that same way

You leave it again

And I am just as undone

As I was then

I would not have thought

That I could fall for you again

But this is my weakness

That I can't resist you

Any more than Eve could resist

That shiny red apple

Hanging so temptingly from that tree

But resist you I must

For you belong to another now

Someone who could never love you

The way that I did

This is the choice you made

Not once, but twice

And I, I must accept that while

My love for you is pure

It is not wise

I choose to walk away

And to wish you well

Even though my heart is broken

Once again

By the dreams you created

And then abandoned

So head held high

I pick myself up

Brush off the sand

And walk away

Once again alone

Broken but not destroyed

Knowing that

I will be whole again

And thankful that

Once and for all

I am free of your hold on me

So wonderful! Good resolve, and very realistic though difficult to achieve. One may be broken, but another can come to pick up the pieces that are too heavy for one to lift by themselves.
