Peace

Peace

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

If I have to go today

If I can't keep myself from slipping away

Let it be your arms holding me

Let your voice be the one guiding me

If there's pain

Then let there also be peace

And don't cry if I can't find

The breath to say goodbye

If I have to go today

If there's no way for me to stay

Then let your smile

Be the last thing I see

If I can't find the strength

To reach up and touch your face

Or even whisper your name

I'll keep your gaze

As I sink into the blackness

That encroaches from every direction

I'll cling to this world

Desperate to remain for you

But if I have to go today

Hold me as it all fades away

And even if I can't manage to speak

Let my love be your peace
