All I Want is You

All I Want is You

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I’ve been haunted by

this ghost for years.

I know that I can’t

breathe life back into it.

I can’t save someone

who wants to drown.

I can try,

but it will only bring me down.

This isn’t my fault.

I never wanted this at all.

All I want is you,

but you’ve torn me in two.

I’ll be haunted long after

your ghost is gone,

until years from now

when memories turn to dust.

The hardest part is

realizing I’m a ghost too,

but I can still breathe life

back into me.

This isn’t my fault.

I only wanted you.

I never wanted a war,

I only wanted you.

This isn’t my fault.

I never wanted this at all.

I never wanted this at all.

No, I never wanted this you at all.

You’re a ghost, and I am too.

We’re haunting each other.

But one day we’ll let go

of what tethers us together.
