Angel in the Audience

Angel in the Audience

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

 I’m terrified

to walk across that stage,

even though there’s so much

waiting for me on the other side.

Everything that I’ve worked so hard for

these past six and a half years.

Every fight and every tear.

Every way that I have transformed.

I no longer recognize the girl

that I was when this all began,

and I don’t ever want to be her again

But I know that I’ll still miss her.

And I want you there,

more than I think

I have ever wanted anything.

I want to share this moment

that will change everything

with you.

Because I know I’m leaving

so much behind

when I walk across that stage.

I don’t know if I’m ready for

yet another goodbye

but at least I know

I’ll have an angel in the audience.
