Live for Today

An original poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

Remember when you were in first grade

Dreaming of going to high school?

And the day couldn't come soon enough

But when it finally came you weren't ready

And you just want to go back to when you were young

Because life is passing you by too fast

Before you know it you're out on your own

And you’re not ready to grow up just yet

You want to go home but now your house is empty

The days when bunny solved your problems are gone

Someday years from now you will look back

And wonder why you ever wished your childhood away

Because everything was so much simpler

You were naïve, wearing your heart on your sleeve

And the world broke all of your dreams

Wouldn’t it be nice to own a time machine?

So that you could go back and relive your memories

You grew up too fast and now you just want to go back

You thought you were living your life for tomorrow

And so you never stopped to live life for today
