CHIMERA IN MY BRAIN

CHIMERA IN MY BRAIN

A Poem by hanir
"

...when a dead person isn't actually dead.

"
CHIMERA IN MY BRAIN
You died a tragic inevitable death.
Apparently it was your choice to cease your breath.
I was there at your funeral.
Everyone was there to remark.
But they didn't seem to feel
the awful grief that I felt.
I was crying a river of infinite tears,
Hoping it was just one of those horrible nightmares.
But your death was so vividly real.
And there was nothing more to appeal.
Some nights, I caught myself in capricious fiction,
Hearing sweet whispers of our previous love and devotion.
Echoes of beautiful memories,
Playing like lovely melodies.
But some other nights, there were sounds of terror,
Howling in agony and intense sorrow.
The painful screams were like a knife cutting every inch of my flesh,
And I was bleeding profusely even deep down through my chest.
I wondered how could a dead person be capable of doing this much.
And it got me thinking of what's real and what's not.

Very original & spellbinding description of missing someone who apparently took his/her own life. The beginning feels a little weak to me, as far as expressing the horror most people would feel in such a situation . . . it feels a little matter-of-fact to me instead: "But they didn't seem to feel the awful grief that I felt." After that point, the true intensity begins & I can feel the torturous feelings of your message. Most poignant is the way you switch from horrible nightmares to sweet dreams of the departed -- very true to life, during grief, as many conflicting emotions swirl. I also very much like your original ideas about how people don't really leave us when they die. This is true on many levels.

Brilliant! Death bites the living, ripping our flesh and exposing our hearts to the freezing winds of change. We all know it is inevitable but it is the aftermath, the empty days that we must endure that really crush us..and make us question how to spend our short days here

Everyone handles loss differently. Some sulk, and some turn grief into art. Well done.

Really enjoyed this! The loss of someone close is never easy to handle. But reality is simply what we make of it.

Love the meaning of the last lines, makes you think that nobody really ever dies.
