Little Leah

Little Leah

A Poem by namenotshannah
"

My cousin was born premature. An extremely sad time in our lives, I remember feeling like life was entirely unfair and unjust. Writing this helped me to realise that life is precious and valuable.

"

A beautiful baby was born today,
And excitement fills the air,
For everything she does is wonderful,
And her eyes sparkle with life,

But her body is too weak,

I count her petite fingernails,
I hold her fingers tightly,
And although she is delicate and frail,
Little Leah squeezes back,

And the tears won’t stop falling,

Another day comes and goes in a blur,
And it’s time for her to leave,
Every soft breath she takes is glorious,
But the light in her eyes fades,

We hope that the angels open their arms,

She sleeps silently,
In her plastic box,
Our little Leah.

I don't often write poetry, I prefer to write short stories and children's books, but I thought I would try!

For not writing poetry very well done :)
This poem really broke my heart :( I had a nephew that was born prematurely as well, so I can relate. It breaks your heart to see how small they are. But my nephew survived and is a strong boy!
I'm so sorry though you lost her :( But don't worry she's safe in heaven.

This is very touching but I feel like you are holding back emotion in this. This is a poem about death and sorrow and you are looking at it like an outside party but you are active in it. I don't know if you were going for that but it feels a little emotionless to me. It's very good and I enjoyed reading it but I don't think that you were putting all you could into it.

That was beautifully written and very sad. For a first time at writing poetry, it was really, really good.
