This Life, This Day

This Life, This Day

A Poem by Elisa Remsen

Why didn’t they notice;

The bracelets on the toilet tops,

The red face and eyes

As she emerged from the bathroom

That pain, it was hers,

No one should have to know, she convinced herself.

Heck- maybe hers wasn’t even real

She didn’t know, she didn’t think.

So all the less pressing it was.

Tomorrow she said,

Tomorrow she’d stop.

But tomorrow came.

The bracelet was slipped off once more, each day with increasing ease,

And left on the toilet top.

She didn’t stop.

Such a complex tragedy written in the simplest words - you really explain it all ..

'The bracelet was slipped off once more, each day with increasing ease, And left on the toilet top.'

This is a plea fortomorrow's waking up, and the strength to get through it

I had to read it couples of times to realize it about addiction. There’s defiantly a massage here. Great job, well done

The sad thing about, tomorrows, is that sometimes they never come. Behind every addiction is a sad story screaming for help.

I'm really enjoying your writing, thank you for posting this Elissa.

A very powerful piece of writing.. Intriguing, to say the least. Would this be based on a personal experience by any chance? Or maybe based on a friend's memories? Either way, a great write this is. Thanks for sharing (:
