Poet Superstars

Poets…
Some of the baddest
beings known to this earth
yet some say we’re
cursed.

Oh we’re cursed?

Cursed to have the abilities
to put words in motion
bringing them to life on paper
in verse.


Hot like fire!

We poets have the mentality
to grab anyone’s
lust and desires
like we’re the pen and paper
poet Messiahs.


With pencil to pen
we get it all hot with lust and desire
when pencil makes intercourse with paper
it sets the stages whole tone
to fire.


Pure mad skills and ambitions of
grabbing the audience’s
intellectual intuitions,
making them attach to us,
have them looking for their
next high like
alcohol and drug addictions.


We lay our poems in lines
and then pour the rest in drinking cups.
Then we sit back and watch as they
anxiously snort and consume
our poetry up.


The highest intoxication!
We send mind, body and hearts racing;
sending them far beyond
any soul’s
unknown destination.


We’re not gods,
but it seems that we’re gods
to our fans: the ones
looking for good poetry
in its highest of high demand.


Poets can bring the mind to its
closes depths or
send it racing off to a far,
but in the end my friend
I must say
that we’re some
Poet Superstars.

Tough i felt the entire piece is fantastic, I did a double take right here. Yowza :)

I just finished a conversation with someone about writers and how we tend to over think things. My response was that it is both a blessing and a curse.

sixth stanza, last line..would out the "up" --unnecessary...line is good without it.
not sure of the very last line either...up to that point i identified with this very much...

there are many who don't really like poetry, that's true...but there are also those who seem to look to us to chronicle the times, and chronicle our unhappiness so that readers can relate and feel better about themselves...and maybe that is a burden...while at the same time...we do feel lucky that we can do this at all...it is a gift and a curse...

but i wouldn't consider myself a superstar at all...just someone who is supposed to do this.

so much said in this i feel is truth...and well put.

Thank you for your opinions and insightful thoughts here but the wording Poet Superstar isn't a title for one to take in conceit, for its a statement or title one can take as being able to have the courage to put there work out in public, where to it being sites like this or to the stage to be viewed by others and have judgement or critiqued upon this poem is merely for encouragement to all of us who are poets as some may relate and get every word in the poems some may not, as some may think things are unnecessary others may think its perfect as is only a matter of one helpful and insightful review such as the the one you gave here but we as poets aren't the same and certainly not all our work will be understood by all but this is what makes us as poets unique. Again I thank you for taking the time to give insightful thoughts on this read I really appreciate it.

k, i love your start, the portrayal of how naive this world's people are naive about poets.
