Preparation For Action

Preparation For Action

A Poem by Heather Rodwell
"

DPW Preparation for Afrikaburn

"
I am
Watching sunrises
Through my dreams
Inside a tent
In Tankwa Town
I pick up wildly sculpted rocks
From the ground
That come from somewhere
Far up in space
As far as time can bend.
And as I chop my hundredth onion,
I start to cry,
Thinking of all those hungry DPW's
Working hard in the desert nearby.
In the mirage in the distance,
Funny structures
Start to take form.
Hot days
And hotter nights.
With kettles on fires
And 3am coffee.
Sweating over hot stoves
In midday heat.
Thorns break my concentrated
Toilet trek,
Cigarette hanging out my mouth,
Two birds, one stone,
No time to rest just yet.
